This means that you don’t know the answer to a question at that very moment. For example, if a client asks you, “Please let me know the fee for filing this application,” you can reply, “I don’t know off the top of my head, but let me find out and get back to you.“

You can also use the phrase “off the top of my head” if you’re not sure about something but you still want to offer a guess or an estimate. For example, in response to the question above, you can reply, “I’m not 100% sure, but off the top of my head, I think it would cost around $150.”
